Boston Terrier Description:
The Boston Terrier is named after the city it was first originated in 1870, when Robert C. Hooper of Boston. He crossbred a English White Terrier (extinct) and the English Bulldog. Initially developed to be a larger, fighting dog, it was gradually bred to be smaller and less aggressive. When dog fighting was outlawed, this breed was used as a ratter and companion dog.

Boston Terrier Appearance:
The Boston Terrier is a small and compact terrier who is muscular. His muzzle is distinctive because it is short and square. The tail is short and he has erect ears. The eyes are bulging and prominent.

The Boston Terrier's weight:
10-25lb (5-11kg)


Boston Terrier Grooming/Coat:
The Boston Terrier is easy to groom. Periodic brushing is all that is necessary. Make sure eyes and ears are clean. If you give your Pug a bath, be sure to thoroughly dry him as to eliminate chills.

Temperament/Personality:
Boston Terriers are intelligent, stubborn, well-mannered, very gentle and friendly. Most love to please their master. Primarily bred for companionship. Boston Terriers usually only bark when necessary. Depending on early socialization, some Boston Terriers can be very cuddly while others can be independent.

Families/Children:
If properly socialized at a young age, Boston Terriers get alone well with children, other dogs, older people and other house animals.

Boston Terrier Living Environment:
Many Boston Terriers cannot tolerate excessive heat and also extremely cold weather so be sure to keep this in mind.

Apartment, condominium or small home should be fine as long as daily walks or some other moderate exercise is available.


Boston Terrier Health:
Some health issues which can affect the Boston Terrier:
cataracts (both juvenile and adult type)
cherry eye
luxating patellas
deafness
heart murmur
allergies
sensitive digestive system

Giving birth can be difficult. Cesarean section is usually required.
