Akita Inu Description:
The Akita Inu is sometimes called the Akita-ken and Japanese Akita and is a different breed from the American Akita.

Inu translates to "dog"


Akita Inu Appearance:
The Akita Inu's weight:
Male 34–54 kg (75–119 lb)
Female 34-50 kg (75–110 lb)


Akita Inu Grooming/Coat:
The Akita Inu has a double coat - straight undercoat and a thick outer coat making this breed basically waterproof and protected against very cold weather. Regular grooming is necessary especially during the warmer months.

Colors: Red, fawn, sesame, brindle, pure white, all with whitish coat on the sides of the muzzle, on the cheeks, on the underside of jaw, neck, chest, body and tail and on the inside of the legs (Urajiro)


Temperament/Personality:
Akita Inu are renowned as loyal dogs and are also very intelligent. Because of their high level of intelligence, the Akita Inu tends to be easily bored. When this happens he can be destructive and even aggressive.

An experienced owner who knows how to properly socialize the Akita Inu is very important so he grows to become a friendly and accommodating dog.

The Akita Inu enjoys human companionship but is also very happy just being outside.


Families/Children:
The Akita Inu enjoy playing with children and adults. They typically do well with strangers and other pets if properly socialized at an early age.

The Akita Inu breed is one of the more family loyal breeds. They will become very protective of both family and home making them excellent guard dogs and family pets.

The Akita Inu can easily live well in an apartment, condominium or small house if allowed to get enough exercise and mental stimulation.
