Grief

Saying Goodbye:

When do you know it is time? Knowing when it is time can be a very daunting, stressful and sleepless decision. There is no clear-cut answer of ‘when’. The loss of a pet can be traumatic not only for you but others who grew to love him.

Pet Hospice Programs:
Pet hospice, something that is becoming more common these days, can be a tremendous method of dealing with the stress of grief of your dying pet. Because the hospice program’s main goal is to help both you and the pet, the pet also greatly benefits. Your pet can enjoy the last days of life in as comfortable an environment as possible. In the past, most end-of-life choices for pets were limited to euthanasia and pet owners were left to their own devices to ‘get over it.’

Pet Hospice care is similar to Human Hospice care. Medical with pain relieving and comfort care are provided to the pet that is near the end of life. Hospice care providers also provide holistic care for the owners who are struggling with the care decisions and are very much aware of the ultimate outcome. Pet Hospice allows the owners time to say ‘good-bye’ to their cherished companion.

When the time is near, Pet Hospice can provide euthanasia services.

But this topic here is how to handle your grief
When grief is experienced, we many times relive past circumstances that either make us happy or make us sadder. Grief can leave us forever changed. There is one fact we all face. We will experience loss. The loss of a family member, the loss of a close friend, and the loss of a long-term companion…your dog.

Able to plan ahead:
Grieving the loss of your dog can be easier if you are able to plan ahead. If your dog is diagnosed with a terminal illness, you are usually able to plan ahead. There are many things to consider. Please see our euthanasia page. Besides describing euthanasia, this page also provides great and comforting information on what to do afterwards.

Sudden Loss:
The sudden loss of a pet can be very devastating. Early in the day your dog is licking your face and wagging his tail, later he could be the victim of a car hit.

Sudden Loss:
Your pet is scared or spooked and runs away never to return. This happened to me.
