Cruelty/Neglect

Have you witnessed animal cruelty? Do you think you are witnessing it? It is hard to stomach!
- A neighbor dog howling because he has a four-foot chain 24 hour a day
- The animal is in a filthy, unsanitary or unhealthy condition
- You see an animal being hit for no obvious reason
- You know of an animal kept in a crate all day

What can you do?
Laws and codes vary widely from state to state, county to county, city to city and neighborhood to neighborhood. There are so many “other” concerns in existence today that put innocent animals at the end of the “concerned list.” But a true animal lover can at least try to do something. Perhaps persuade the “human” that what he is doing to his animal is inappropriate and morally wrong. Perhaps a simple notification that you are aware of it is all it takes."

Possible Ideas:
- Type an anonymous letter. State that you are aware of this animal’s plight and that if something is not done to improve it, you will call animal control, humane society or some local organization. Place this letter in the offending person’s mailbox.
- Call animal control or the humane society and report what you have witnessed
- Call the police

We do not recommend you take the matter into your “own hands.” Get someone in authority.
